‘Screen For Life’ takes to the road in expansive Breast Cancer awareness drive

Dedicated mobile screening carries out screenings and raises knowledge levels as it tours prominent locations around Qatar

The ‘Screen For Life’ specialized mobile screening unit has completed a hugely successful operational tour throughout November, giving complimentary breast screenings to 150 women and reinforcing the crucial role it plays in the National Breast and Bowel Cancer Screening program’s drive to improve cancer awareness levels across Qatar.

Led by the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), the ‘Screen For Life’ mobile screening unit covered many populated areas in Qatar as it visited a number of locations where the team hosted awareness lectures, and provided screening to eligible women.

“The dedicated mobile screening unit is a key component in our drive to further enhance awareness levels across Qatar of the program’s goals and objectives, and emphasizing the benefits of screening in the early detection of cancer,” said Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Cancer Program Manager, PHCC.

“It was encouraging to witness such strong engagement during this tour. People are embracing the program, which is a great sign as we continue our goal to reach as many people as possible with our message.”

The mobile unit tour commenced its tour at the Qatar Indian Islahi Center where the team hosted an awareness lecture for the first time in Malayalam and carried out screenings. The mobile unit provided screenings during visits to Modern English School in Madinat Khalifa, Qatar Petroleum – Dukhan – Aster Hospital over two days where she offered mammogram service to eligible staff, and Fahad Bin Jasim Kidney Center at Hamad Medical Corporation, where the unit stayed for two days.

The ‘Screen For Life’ mobile unit also spent a day at Georgetown University as part of the university’s Breast Cancer Awareness Day, where the team engaged with students and faculty on the program’s goals and invited people to tour the specialized unit.

After celebrating one year in operations earlier this year, the unit will also continue to perform marketing tours, visiting government departments and private companies, offering employees to learn more about the unit and discover its benefits.

During December, the mobile screening unit will be present at Al Sheehaniya Health Center offering mammogram services to eligible ladies from Sunday to Thursday; starting 7:00 am till 3:00 pm
